Overview
Fitness Village Balby, part of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT), is a well-used community fitness facility focused on delivering inclusive health and wellbeing services. As part of its ongoing commitment to modernisation and improved member experience, the site introduced a cloud-driven access control solution supported by ACT365, alongside the installation of two Speedlane turnstiles.
This investment reflects DCLT’s forward-thinking approach to creating efficient, secure, and digitally enabled leisure environments.
The Challenge
Operating as a busy local fitness hub, Fitness Village Balby needed to manage consistent footfall while maintaining a welcoming and professional environment. Existing processes created pressure at peak times, with entry points becoming congested and staff required to support manual check-in activity.
The Trust required a solution that would not only enhance operational efficiency and site security, but also support a more seamless and modern member journey aligned with the expectations of today’s users.
The Solution
The Solution
The implementation of two Speedlane turnstiles, fully integrated with the both Nortech & ACT365 cloud-based access control platform, transformed how members access the facility.
The Speedlanes provide a sleek, intuitive entry experience, enabling fast and controlled access into the building. Their design complements the modern aesthetic of the facility while delivering reliable throughput during busy periods.
At the core of the system is ACT365, offering a centralised, cloud-managed platform that allows site teams to monitor and manage access in real time. The system supports secure member authentication via Nortech and provides flexible control over user permissions, ensuring only authorised individuals can enter the facility.
Implementation
The installation was carefully delivered to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations. The transition to the new system was smooth, with the Speedlanes and ACT365 platform configured to align with existing membership structures and operational requirements.
Staff were able to quickly adapt to the new system, benefiting from a clear, user-friendly interface and improved visibility of site activity.
Results
Since implementation, Fitness Village Balby has seen a marked improvement in both operational performance and user experience. Entry to the facility is now faster and more efficient, significantly reducing congestion during peak hours and creating a more positive first impression for members.
The automation of access control has allowed staff to focus on higher-value activities, including customer engagement and service delivery, rather than manual gatekeeping. At the same time, the Trust benefits from enhanced security, with all access events logged and managed through a secure cloud platform.
